It’s a big responsibility so here’s help in making the right decision.
Your officiant takes on a major role on your big day so your decision isn’t one to take lightly!
Here are a few things to consider when deciding who would make the perfect officiant:
Who do you know?
The first step is to consider if you already know a good fit. This could be someone from your current or previous place of worship, a friend, or someone in your community.
Do your research!
Check out a potential officiant’s credentials and references. Your officiant is a legal role so if they don’t have the right certifications or licensing your vows could end up null and void! Yikes.
Do they speak well?
Your officiant needs to have the confidence to speak clearly. Ask for a video from another wedding to see whether this is someone you want to oversee your big day!
Get personal…
Plan to meet your officiant a few times to get to know them better, and for them to get to know you. This also gives you a chance to find out if you have aligned values.
Special obligations
Some officiants require premarital counseling, online training sessions or other meetings so be sure you’re ready to meet those expectations.
Hopefully this will help you to narrow down potential officiants for your special day.
